Mr. Riley was used as a bait dog to teach older dogs to fight. The marks on his body are due to the fighting with the older dogs.

President and veterinarian, Linda Estrada, said: “This little guy was raised as bait.”

“I believe that when people can do something to a harmless puppy or kitten, what can they do to a human? Don’t make a profit on them, find another way to make a living, but not this,” she said.

Animal Welfare League recently updated Mr. Riley’s well-wishers. It wrote on its Facebook page:

‘Mr. Riley is slowly recovering. It has been a little over a month and he is looking adorably good these days. He is still in need of medical care, but he thrives to survive is inspirational to us all. According to his foster mom, he loves to snuggle. He is almost fully housetrained and knows the sit & come commands. Mr. Riley enjoys playing outside with the other dogs he stays with.’
