A woman has had enough of waiting as she surprised her fiancé with an instant wedding on the beach after six years of engagement.
As British Columbia-based Nicole Arnett explained, she and her partner, Daniel, got engaged in 2014 when the man bent the knee and proposed to her with his grandma’s ring.
While they were both excited to tie the knot, they were unable to lock down the specifics of their special day as years passed by.
As Nicole admitted, their plans “never felt quite right” which is why their wedding kept on getting postponed until she realized she didn’t want to wait a second longer.
“We realized we didn’t actually want a wedding, which is why we put it off; we just wanted to be married to each other which were two very different things in our mind,” she said.
To make this possible, Nicole decided to surprise her fiancé with an instant wedding on the beach.
“We just wanted to keep it really simple and unique to us so that was how I came up with: one, the surprise and two, making it a part of our favorite day of the year [New Year’s Day] anyway which felt very special and intimate.”
And before she knew it, Nicole was able to put together an intimate wedding for just $3,000 with the help of her closest friends and family members.
“I booked our wedding commissioner, which was necessary, booked a caterer and told Daniel, ‘I don’t want to be the one cooking today. It’s my 40th birthday the next day so I’m just going to do this,’ and I just blamed anything out of the ordinary on that,” the woman explained.
When the New Year’s Day finally arrived, Nicole and 35 guests waited for Daniel to join them on the beach. While the groom couldn’t help but feel shocked as he realized he arrived at his own wedding, he later revealed things couldn’t be more perfect.
“I already had the dress from a friend’s wedding… Our son was the surprise ring bearer and two wonderful pals sang to us and played the guitar before the ceremony,” Nicole said as she recalled the wedding.
“I got up and said how happy I was that everyone was there and then I was mentioning that I had a long to-do list this year for resolutions… and there was something that Daniel and I had been meaning to do for a long time but we’d never got around to, which was to get married.
“He’d been filming me, and he just dropped his phone and he’s just staring at me with his mouth hanging open. After the ceremony, the entire party serenaded us with the Beatles ‘When I’m 64’ and then we jumped into the ocean.”
