Jacob Keltner was a sheriff and a brave heart that lost his life while protecting someone else.
In the world we live in today, there are very few people who care about others equals to or more than they love themselves.
Jacob was one such man who lived for his community and his country.
He was on duty when a robber shot him dead. To honor the great sheriff who had been working with McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for about 12 years now, a roadhouse decided to pay tribute to the man by setting everything from the posters to the salt shakers on his themes. His photos were all around the place until he was placed to rest.
Yes, this was a great tribute but the best tribute to the sheriff was given by his wife.
She wrote an emotional letter about her husband’s death and about how everything turned out.
In her letter, she wrote that it was a punch in the gut when she received the news. They had a beautiful family of four with two young boys and now living without her husband is something she had never imagined.
She said that she screamed and cried but she knew that nothing would ever bring him back. She said that the most difficult part was to tell her sons that their father would never come back.
She said that her husband was a great man and he always wanted to serve the country and the community. She said that when he was selected into the county service, she knew there is no power in the world that could have stopped him from serving for his country and community. He was a man who lived to help others no matter what hour of the day it may be.
In the end, she wrote that she does not want Jacob to be just another name on the list but she wants him to be remembered as the man who died while protecting someone else.
