90-Year-Old Woman In Tears When Community And Strangers Came To Fix Her House

The elderly people in our communities have so much to offer.

Their wisdom and conversation can provide younger generations with advice and entertainment to pass on when they reach a mature age. We should always look out for the older people in our neighborhoods. Even though they are not strong, they have so much to teach the younger generation.

Although they have the wisdom to pass on, they need some help with the activities using the body and strength as they are less strong than young people.

At the age of 90, Agnes was in desperate need of help. She lives alone and for years, her relative had been using Agnes’ home to dump debris and trash. Rusted and rotting junk was covering her yard and it stank. The city took action when neighbors finally complained. The city threatened to charge her upwards of $2,500 on a daily basis if the terrible mess wasn’t cleaned up.

It wasn’t just Agnes’ yard. Her entire home had fallen into disrepair and she couldn’t live properly in the house. Her roof fell apart, she didn’t have air conditioning, and animals were getting into the house.

However, there was a problem. Agnes was barely able to walk, so she couldn’t remove the trash herself because of her condition. And with her husband passed on, she had no one to help her nearby.

Since there was nobody to ask help for, Agnes contacted Operation Blessing. According to its website, Operation Blessing is “dedicated to demonstrating God’s love by alleviating human need and suffering in the United States and around the world.” The organization provides disaster relief, health and medical care, hunger relief, vulnerable children and orphan care, safe water, and community development.

This was exactly what Agnes needed – someone to come to her home and remove the junk from her property. Operation Blessing answered Agnes wish. Volunteers and total strangers tore down the dilapidated shed and removed the trailer from her property.

As they heard her story, the organization immediately sprang to action. Agnes and the team agreed to have her backyard cleared, along with tearing down her broken shed and trailer that was also on her property. But then Agnes went outside to discover other volunteers had been showing up — people Agnes never asked for or expected to see. It seemed the folks at Operation Blessing had secretly called upon some extra assistance.

Along with the volunteers from Operation Blessing were countless other strangers. It turned out that OB had called for backup from the community, and Agnes’s community answered. The volunteers from the local university came to help her.

When they finished with the repair, the team decided to do even more than what was agreed. Along with the agreed fixes, they also fixed her roof, and, with the help of Regent University volunteers, they also placed a new pathway to the front of her home, built a new flower bed, cleaned out her shed.

And they prepared the last present, which she liked the most.

The brand new air conditioner!

Agnes was absolutely surprised at the way her home looked. The new path they had paved for her made it easy for her to get into her door with her wheelchair. Also, the new air conditioner made a world of difference in the painful summer heat. The elderly young woman looked relieved from all of the debris and clutter in her home finally gone and the roof to her home fixed.

She never expected this to happen in her life because there was no one by her side after her husband passed away. Her relatives were not caring for her and one of them even made her house a mess.

The amazing organization saved a woman from debt and stress in a way that is hard to measure in a tangible figure. We’re absolutely stunned at the amount of pain that was lifted from Agnes’ face!

We’re so happy that Agnes doesn’t have the threat from the city hanging over her head anymore. Thanks to Operation Blessing, the dear lady’s home, and yard are free of debris and junk.
