The news channel in Kaliningrad blamed a ‘technical glitch’ for the embarrassing blunder.

As the President spoke to Russians, only the lower half of his head was visible. His eyes and forehead were cut out as he delivered his New Year speech from Kremlin.

The 68-year-old’s yearly address is traditionally broadcast several minutes before midnight in each of the country’s eleven time zones.

Kaskad TV staff stopped the broadcast as soon as they saw the error on both the internet and television, replacing the message with music.

Bosses at the station explained in a statement: “Problems with the image during the broadcast of Vladimir Putin’s New Year address were caused by a technical glitch in the broadcasting room.
