Earthquakes are one of the major natural disasters that can cause a huge loss of life and possessions.
An earthquake occurs when the tectonic plates, that are below the land we stand one, moves and causes our land to move along too.
This causes major disruption at times. There can be slight shakes or there can be massive cracks on the surface of the earth.
There have been many such incidents in the past that an earthquake affected a region and hundreds and hundreds of people were affected by it. It looks like the same is going to happen in Turkey now.
No, we are discussing things merely on assumptions here but GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research located in Kiel, in Germany found out this in their research as they used seismic technology.
According to the researches, North Anatolian Fault in the Sea of Marmara is having movement of tectonic plates. This is the same place that became the source of a major earthquake that occurred 200 years ago.
According to the paper GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre has published in Nature Communication, they have recorded the measurements on the floor bed and found out the disturbance that is developing. This may affect in an extremely adverse manner.
The study said that it is well know how the city of Istanbul has faced several earthquakes in the past as the city is located at the edge of the Sea of Marmara where this movement is taking place.
This means that there may occur yet another earthquake that can cause an even bigger impact in the region.
An earthquake has already hit Istanbul in May at 7.5 on the Richter scale and this one is going to be almost the same too.
