Denise, a young 11-years-old girl, spent her whole life learning to read product labels on the food products.
As suffering from a severe dairy allergy, she and her parents took care that she is never exposed to any dairy product that can cause complications for her. But this family, living in Southern California, has never thought that they could lose their daughter as a result of a little negligence of not reading the toothpaste ingredients subscribed to her by the dentists.
Denise went to the dentist for a routine checkup with her mother. The dentist after noticing some spots on her teeth prescribed her with a new toothpaste called MI Paste One.
Denise mother told that she never thought of “milk” as an ingredient in a children’s toothpaste. That toothpaste was, however, having a milk-derived protein called Recaldent.
Altamirano, Denise’s mother, told that her daughter also didn’t realize to check the ingredients and she was just so thrilled to use the new toothpaste. But when she did, her body straightaway started to react against the dairy ingredient as her lips started to turn blue and she was having trouble breathing.
She was immediately moved to the hospital emergency but, unfortunately, she didn’t survive.point 206 |

She hopes that her daughter’s story is a life lesson for many parents who are fighting with the allergic reactions of their children because now she believes that one should never be afraid or embarrassed to ask about the ingredients after all a life depends on it.
