Initially, the mother thought the marsupial was injured, prompting her to stop her car and investigate the situation.

After walking closer to the koala, however, Pamela realized it paused in the middle of the road in order to have a refreshing drink right off the street.

“I thought he was injured as he was so quiet. But once he walked a little I realized he was fine. We couldn’t get him off the road he was just so thirsty,” she explained in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.

After the koala was refreshed, Pamela brought a vet to the scene to have the animal double-checked just in case it was injured.

Fortunately, however, the marsupial appeared to be healthy as it climbed on a nearby tree when the mother and the vet got close to it.

“When we got close to the tree he moved higher up. Which is exactly what a healthy koala should do,” Pamela added.

She also urged other people on the road to take extra caution when driving due to wildlife taking to the concrete pavements in search of water.

“Please be careful on the roads. Wildlife coming out to drink. It’s heartbreaking to see them stressed,” she said.
