Drew Scalice, Joseph Dietrich, Tyler Armagan, Ryan Day, and Kieran Foley were on their way home after sledding at the Beacon Hill Country Club when they saw two kids flying into the water.

4-year-old RJ and his 8-year-old sister, Olivia, were sledding when their father screamed for them to jump off, Foley told CNN.

“They just went so fast right down the hill,” Foley recalled, adding that the children “really didn’t see it coming.”

The New Jersey teens sprung into action and formed a human chain to rescue the children from the icy pond.

“I knew it wasn’t that deep, the water, so I just picked them up and brought them to the side of the pond to get them as warm as possible,” Foley said.

As soon as the children were rescued from the water, the teens consoled them.

“All I can remember is seeing the kids come down. When we went to the car they started to cry … but Ryan was trying to calm the kids down, asking them what they wanted for Christmas, all that type of stuff,” Scalise said.

Parents Stephanie Irlbeck and Richard Heid expressed their gratitude to the teens for “their courage and bravery.”
