22-year-old Carys Ingram from Salford, England, was flying from Manchester, a then-amber region, to Jersey in order to visit her relatives on October 12.

Following her arrival on the island, the student chose to get tested for coronavirus but failed to self-isolate until testing negative for Covid-19 five days later.

According to the reports, Ingram was out shopping just three days after her arrival in Jersey.

After the authorities discovered that another passenger on the student’s flight tested positive for coronavirus, Ingram was contacted and ordered to self-isolate and undergo coronavirus testing again.

In the following days, the student once again breached her quarantine by going to a restaurant and visiting the First Tower area.

After the officials found out about the breach thanks to the photos Ingram posted on her social media accounts, the student was ordered to appear in court.

For her first breach of self-isolation, Ingram was ordered to pay over $780. She was also ordered to pay an additional $7,800 for failing to self-isolate after being contacted by authorities and told to quarantine.

If the student fails to pay the fines, she could face 6 months behind the bars.

“It is regrettable that someone should endanger the health of other islanders after being informed of the need to self-isolate. This fine demonstrates that we will pursue prosecution for those found flouting the law,” Caroline Maffia, the Strategic Lead for Contact Tracing, Monitoring and Enforcement, said.

“Anyone identified as a direct contact of a COVID positive person must understand the importance of following public health advice and abiding by the law.”
