“You’re entitled to your opinion,” the Aberdeenshire school teacher told the pupil. “If I am, then why did you kick me out of class? It’s not very inclusive,” the 17-year-old responded.

Defending the 56-year-old teacher, the Aberdeenshire Council suggested the recording doesn’t show everything that was going on at the time of the incident and claimed the teen was “looking for trouble.”

“No, I’m sorry, what you were saying is not very inclusive. This is an inclusive school,” the teacher added in retaliation to the student’s response. He also explained the law states there are more than two genders.

“You were clearly given an opportunity not to pursue it. You chose to do so,” the teacher added.

“I think it’s silly to have anything other than two genders, sir,” the student went on saying.

“Could you please keep that opinion to your own house? Not in this school,” the teacher then requested.

After telling the pupil to leave the class, the teacher defended his actions saying the student was pursuing points “contrary to policy” and told the pupil to “make an official complaint” if he wanted to.

“I am not allowed to tell you how much of my time you have wasted,” the teacher added after the student told him it wasn’t fair to waste his time by kicking him out of the class.

“It is important to understand the context of any video clip taken without a person’s consent. In our schools, fostering good relations among different groups can be a real challenge but our aim is to support a fairer, inclusive environment for all.”
