Diamond and Chris Harris from Alabama welcomed six babies into their family back in 2002. Many years later, the siblings have become America’s first African-American sextuplets to graduate from high school together.

“The morning of the ceremony, I sat in bed looking at their baby pictures and felt depressed. It’s going to be too quiet,” mum Diamond said in an interview with Today following the sextuplets’ graduation.

“These kids have been my life for almost 18 years. They have been my reason. I keep reminding myself it’s just going to be different, but everything will be OK,” father Chris added.

According to the reports, Diamond, who has another child from her previous relationship, was given fertility drugs before conceiving sextuplets.

As the couple recalled, they were initially told they were expecting twins before another scan suggested five babies were growing inside Diamond.

Due to health complications, the mother was admitted to Birmingham’s University of Alabama Hospital where she also gave birth at just 26.5 weeks via C-section.

It wasn’t until Diamond gave birth that the doctors realized that the mother was actually having sextuplets whereas each of them weighed just over one to two pounds.

Following the birth, the newborns remained at the hospital for three months before they were all miraculously strong enough to go home.

While their parents got a divorce in 2012, Chris and Diamond remain on good grounds and couldn’t be prouder to see their kids graduate.
