‘Small Town Saturday Night’ Singer Hal Ketchum Dies Aged 67


‘Small Town Saturday Night’ hitmaker Hal Ketchum passed away at the age of 67 after battling dementia.

The country singer’s wife, Andrea, confirmed the tragic news on Facebook, writing: “With great sadness and grief we announce that Hal passed away peacefully last night at home due to complications of Dementia.”

“May his music live on forever in your hearts and bring you peace,” Andrea added.

Ketchum, who is also known for his song ‘Past the Point of Rescue,’ was diagnosed with dementia in April 2019.

Andrea said at that time: “I know everyone is wondering why there are no future tour dates, and speculations as to the reason. Our family would like to share the cause for this.

“Unfortunately, Hal is suffering from Alzheimer’s/dementia. He has been battling this for some time now, but because of his love for his fans, he continued performing as long as it was possible.”

She added in an update: “Because of his love for his fans, he continued performing as long as it was possible. Dementia is an exhausting and confusing illness, and now it’s time for Hal to stay home with loved ones.

“Hal is otherwise healthy and happy, enjoying time with his family and friends.”

Ketchum from Greenwich, New York, started his music career as a drummer before moving to Texas where he wrote songs and played in clubs.

He released eleven studio albums and his most commercially successful record is Past the Point of Rescue.

From 1991 to 2006, he scored 17 entries on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

Another said: “I saw Hal many times on Sunday afternoons at Gruene Hall in the late 80’s. He was a true gentleman and a hell of a carpenter. My prayers and condolences go out to his family. Hal, you’re the Superman now.”
