A woman has spoken out about turning her council flat into a rubbish dump and admitted being forced to pee in bottles because she isn’t able to reach her toilet due to massive amounts of junk taking over the apartment.
Appearing in Channel 5’s Hoarders series, 47-year-old Sally-Ann’s home is a gathering place for flies, maggots, and junk which the woman has been collecting for over 17 years.
As the hoarder who lives in a council flat admitted, she can’t make use of her toilet and kitchen any longer because the rooms are packed with trash and stuff she’s been hoarding.
“I couldn’t get to the toilet in time because I’d have to climb over all the rubbish so I started urinating in bottles,” Sally said.
“The cats were sleeping around me as well and they’d end up messing in certain corners of the bedroom. I created a hell basically to live in.”
According to Sally, who can’t work due to her health problems, the hoarding obsession began after her mother had passed away and she moved to a new place.
“I think it began when I moved in on my own. My place used to get untidy anyway like everyone’s does and then all of a sudden I had to put the bin out and I just thought ‘oh my god,’” the 47-year-old explained.
“I was living in pure rubbish, and I mean pure rubbish. You couldn’t see my bed, and from the floor to the ceiling there were piles and piles of black bags dissolving with cat food, rotting food and cat litter – cat feces and all sorts and I was actually living in that.”
After things spiraled out of control, Sally’s neighbors reported unbearable conditions and the woman was threatened with eviction. Following a 6-day professional cleaning, the apartment was made inhabitable again.
Years later, however, Sally’s hoarding crossed all borders once more. She was once again forced to call in a cleaning team that required four days to get rid of the mess the 47-year-old managed to hoard.
“Once you’re a hoarder you’re always a hoarder. It’s like once you’re an alcoholic or a drug addict,” Sally said.
According to the statistics, there are around 1.2 million hoarders living in the UK.
