Reconsider Travel: US Urges Citizens To Think Twice About Traveling To China After The Coronavirus Outbreak


According to reports made by CNN and several news outlets, the United States is now issuing a warning to travelers and its citizens to reconsider visiting China due to threats from the Wuhan coronavirus that has taken the lives of more than 80 people, sickened thousands in that country, and is now spreading globally.

On Monday, starting from a travel advisory of Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution, the US State Department has now raised its travel advisory to Level 3: Reconsider Travel due to the novel coronavirus that started in Wuhan, China.

Last week, the State Department raised its travel advisory for China’s Hubei Province, the provincial capital of Wuhan, to Level 4: Do Not Travel.point 256 |

It also instructed the evacuation of all non-emergency personnel and their families from the said province.point 92 | State Department has organized a flight leaving Wuhan for this personnel including other US citizens if space allows it.point 194 | According to a State Department official, the flight would depart on Wednesday morning China Standard Time and would travel to Ontario, California.point 320 |

The official said:

“Priority has been given to U.S. citizens who are most at risk of contracting the coronavirus if they remain in Wuhan,”

“All passengers will be subject to CDC screening, health observation, and monitoring requirements.”

According to the US official, the flight will have medical personnel on board to provide treatment to anyone infected with the virus and make sure it is contained. The official reported there are about 1,000 Americans living in Wuhan.

On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control lifted its travel precautions for China to Level 3 which warns citizens to avoid nonessential travel to the country.

In the US, there are at least five confirmed cases of coronavirus to date, and that number is expected to rise Almost 2,800 confirmed cases in China and at least 80 deaths were recorded on Monday. While across China, there are 15 cities with a total population of over 57 million people were placed under full or partial lockdown.
