A co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation and a socialize magazine publisher has been arrested for reportedly killing two young boys while driving her vehicle drunk in California.
57-year-old Rebecca Grossman has been arrested after reportedly smashing her speeding Mercedes into Jacob and Mark Iskander.
11-year-old Mark died instantly while 9-year-old Jacob passed away a few hours later in a hospital.
Capt Salvador Becerra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that the siblings were ‘walking with their family’ when the incident took place.
“It is a very tragic situation. The mother and father were able to pull the other two children back in time, and the vehicle struck the two other children,” he said.
Police said the incident happened at 7:10 pm at the intersection of Saddle Mountain Drive and Triunfo Candyon Road.
Investigators claim Grossman is not cooperating with detectives.
Six family members were crossing the intersection on a crosswalk with no stoplight when parents Nancy and Karim Iskander heard the speeding Mercedes. They immediately reached out to protect the boys but they only managed to grab their other two children, Violet and Zachary.
One of the brothers was carried for over 100ft down the road on the car’s hood before she stepped on the brakes, KABC reported.
The child rolled onto the road and the driver ran him over, detectives revealed.
Jacob and Mark were both members of the Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church.
The church wrote: “Our beloved angels/deacons Mark & Jacob Iskander departed to our heavenly father our Lord Jesus Christ after being hit by a car last night.”
In a Facebook post, Sen Henry Stern: “This is a devastating loss for our community. Two young boys with an entire lifetime ahead of them.
“Pray for the Iskander family tonight and hold your loved ones close.”
