When Leonardo Di Caprio’s Wolf od Wall Street hit the screens, several people were left shocked after watching one specific scene where finance dudes were getting all excited about tossing dwarfs across a room.
It was a very messed stuff because it showed that this had and still is happening in our modern world. What is even more shocking is that a pub in Australia has chosen to hold a similar event featuring exactly that.
The Great Northern Hotel in Newcastle, New South Wales, promoted an event on Facebook which went by the name of ‘The Wolf Of Watt Street’ and advertised ‘midget-tossing’ amongst the key details of the party.
According to the description of the event, guests would be allowed to toss a midget for free. In case they hit the target, they would earn a free drink at the bar.
However, the event received condemnation very fast and swift after putting up the advertisement on social media.
As a result, the organizers of the event had to remove every reference of midget-tossing and have also apologized for causing offence.
In a statement, the management said that they are extremely sorry for the offence and reference to their Wolf Of Watt Street event, with throwing of any people.
They added that they had no intention of doing so and that it was a misguided note in reference to the movie. The further said that they were only going to have a doll and not a real person. The pub has denied that people with dwarfism were going to be used.
Former national secretary for the Short Statured People of Australia and a Paralympian, Alicia Jenkins, said that she was more than gobsmacked and called the event gut-wrenching and horrifying.
She added that her disgust and disappointment is extremely hard to put into words. She also noted that people do not think of dwarfism as a disability and keep on mocking her and similar people.
