The video was taken by another parent who was just picking up their child from school at the time of the incident.

After the footage has surfaced, parents of the children attending the school demanded the principal get sacked. Since then, Mr. Warner was stood down and an independent investigation initiated by the Victorian Education Minister James Merlino has taken place.

Following the incident, the victim’s parents also spoke out and accused the principal of heavy-handed treatment which took place on the second day of the school year.

“Yes, he was misbehaving, but he was not physically abusing any teachers,” one family member claimed. “Regardless of his behavior, he should not have been treated like this.”

As the boy’s sister added, her brother “suffers from ADHD and anxiety and obviously starting at a new school has upset him, he was having a tantrum.

“I believe he was asked to share something to the class as it was their first day he didn’t want to and became upset.”

According to Merlino, the footage is “appalling and concerning” and won’t be taken lightly.

“Let me be very clear, I will not tolerate this kind of completely unacceptable behavior in our schools. There will be an independent investigation into the staff member’s conduct and he has been immediately stood down while this takes place,” he said.

While some people suggested that the principal shouldn’t act the way he did under no circumstances, others were pointing out that we should know both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions.

It is unclear whether the pupil was being physically abusive to other students or teachers before he was being dragged away.

Mr. Warner became the school’s principal back in 2016 after working at the Footscray City Primary School for several years.
