Growing up, she had suffered child abuse and a crisis through her religious faith.  As a kid, her religious faith emphasized how Moore was taught that it was ‘wrong for me to exist in the way that I do.’ She tells Adrienne Maree Brown, author, that she “chose peace and joy for myself at a very early point in my life.”

In modern day, the actress uses the pronouns “she/they” and has been open to her upbringing, albeit traumatic, with a Puerto Rican mom that grew up as a Jehovah’s witness and a Dominican Republic father that was brought up Catholic.

In making this breakthrough and having the opportunity to be the cover of V Magazine, Moore states, “Damn… I made it, you know? I am really happy to have made it. I’m surprised every day that I’ve made it. I’m really grateful and alive to be here.”

Mentioning her childhood, Moore was unable to present her true identity because she was punished frequently for presenting feminine traits and being feminine in general, since she was constantly pressured to stay masculine.

She thinks that “every queer person goes through a time of their life where they’re at crossroads…” trying to understand “what’s ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ kind of binary.” In the interview, Moore demonstrates the morality of the world and how there is internalized homophobia while people heavily criticize queerness.
