Authorities have warned about the dangers associated with Halloween candies and urged all parents to inspect their kids’ treats before letting them consume them.
As the police from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, warned, thugs might be handing out treats laced with THC to innocent kids on purpose.
The warning followed after they have found a stash full of contaminated candies at someone’s house in Stoney Creek Township.
In an online post, the police warned parents to take caution by writing:
“During this Halloween, we urge parents to be ever vigilant in checking their children’s candy before allowing them to consume those treats.
“Drug laced edibles are package like regular candy and may be hard to distinguish from the real candy.”
While the use of psychoactive substance THC, which is found in marijuana, has been legalized for medical use in the state of Pennsylvania, recreational use through smoking, oils, or edibles hasn’t been approved yet.
THC is the substance responsible for making people high and can have serious effects if consumed by children, especially in great amounts.
In the photos shared by the police, the drug-laced candies appear the same as originals except for a warning on the backside that says each candy is laced with 400 mg THC.
The company responsible for producing original Nerd’s Rope candies, Ferrara Candy Company, has also spoken out and claimed that the laced products are a “counterfeit and in no way associated” with their company.
“This product is counterfeit and in no way associated with Ferrara Candy Company. We want to reassure consumers that the products they find at major retailers across the country are safe for them to consume,” they wrote in a statement to CBS News.
