This App Allows Parents To ‘Charge’ Kids For Car Rides In Exchange For Household Chores

Dropping children to their school, friends’ places or sports takes a considerable time of parents – who get nothing in reward.

But a new app is trying to change that.

Parent Taxi, an app released by Skoda, enables moms and dads to ‘charge’ their children household chores in exchange for car rides.

The free app can keep a record of how many miles a parent drives while taking their kids to different places. The distance is then converted to charges after every ride, just like a taxi meter.

But the exciting thing about this app is that the drivers are not paid in cash by their children, instead, the kids have to do certain chores at home in exchange for the rides they get.

Drivers have an option to send the receipt directly to the young riders’ smartphones to ensure that the daily tasks assigned to them are completed regularly.

As another interesting feature of the app, if the children do not complete the assigned jobs, like doing the dishes or cleaning their room, parents can post the uncompleted tasks on their social media account.

Parent Taxi app was developed by Skoda after a study from the automobile manufacturer found that parents in the UK drive their kids 1,648 miles each year.

And if this distance is converted to standard taxi rates being used in London, the amount will approximately equal a whopping £12,565 ($15,750).

The study also revealed that about two-thirds of UK parents felt acting like a taxi driver for their children as they had to spend an average of three hours each week in transporting their kids around the city.

Parents living in Northern Island had to travel the most to get their kids to the extracurricular activities. The study showed that these parents had to drive more than 2,000 miles every year.

Blogger Jo Middleton, who found the app incredibly useful, said: “This is the app I’ve been waiting for.

“It’s true that kids generally have a better social life than adults and as result that can mean a lot of car journeys each week.

“Although I love encouraging them to get out and do more, I think it’s a great idea to swap miles for some help around the house in return.”
