Trump publicly expressed serious frustration with Boeing’s years-long delay in delivering two modified 747s for presidential use.

The president argued that by accepting the offer from Qatar, he has the ability to bypass and save US taxpayers money. Critics, however, fear that this acceptance would not be ethical or even unconstitutional.

To meet Air Force One standards, the plane would need extensive modifications as well as secure communications, missile defense systems, and nuclear blast shielding.

This plane was first commissioned for Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani. He is Qatar’s former prime minister, and they delivered in the year 2012 at a listing price of $367 million. This does not include the interior, which costs tens of millions of dollars. Despite the luxury interior, the plane failed to find a buyer since it was put in the market in 2020.
