Following one week after the surgery, which took place in February last year, the mother died, leaving behind a “devastated” family and a young son.

After the mother’s unexpected death, her family has demanded answers as to whether the doctors in Turkey were responsible for her premature passing.

As Miss Hunt, the family’s lawyer, said, the deceased mother’s family believes that the Get Slim in Turkey company didn’t ensure that the 26-year-old was aware of all the dangers associated with her procedure before agreeing to go through with it.

“Having a young child she might not have run a risk if she was aware of it,” Hunt said.

In addition, the doctors in Turkey allegedly performed the wrong procedure, whereas the mother reportedly underwent gastric sleeve surgery despite booking a gastric bypass.

“Miss Ashamu booked for a bypass but the postmortem report suggested sleeve surgery was performed,” the lawyer said.

According to the 26-year-old’s father, the family was told that Khelisyah died of pulmonary embolism whereas the postmortem revealed she had died of another cause.

“She had so much to look forward to. Now her son will never know his mother and she will not see him grow up,” the family said in a statement.

“If we can understand what happened, hopefully our daughter will rest in peace and her son will one day understand how his mum came to be taken from him.”
