A 46-year-old mother from the UK has passed away after undergoing a bum lift operation in Brazil.
Ronilza Johnson tragically died in a hospital in Anapolis after suffering complications due to a botched buttock augmentation surgery at a backstreet clinic.
The surgeon, identified as Lucas Santana, is liable for fraudulent misrepresentation, unauthorized practice of medicine, and bodily injury.
According to reports, Ronilza was just visiting her father in Brazil when some of her friends in the country told her about the procedure.
Investigators said that the biomedical scientist introduced himself to the mother as a doctor. He also told Ronilza that he would perform the surgery with the help of a medical student.
The mother paid BRL 9,000 (GPD 1,194) for nose bioplasty and buttock augmentation.
Santana reportedly injected Ronilza’s buttocks with polymethyl methacrylate, also known as FMMA. It then caused severe infections in the woman’s body and left an open wound.
One week after the procedure, Ronilza reported the suspects to the police.
Authorities have identified the other suspect as Thierry Cardoso, a medical student in Bolivia.
Officers searched the clinic and the homes of both suspects. They seized ‘countless’ medicines, some blank prescriptions, and of foreign origin, from Cardoso’s home and the unlicensed clinic.
Police said that they may request judicial authorization to detain Cardoso and Santana.
Ronilza leaves behind her daughter, Amberly Johnson.
One person commented: “This is the danger in social media and reality TV shows – people try to achieve the unachievable or what they consider perfection. The sad thing is that Im sure her children loved her just the way she was, so sad. RIP”
Another wrote: “The doctors were fake, they are not qualified. This explains everything. So very sad.”
