According to locals, monkeys have been attending funerals in the area for more than a year.

Whenever they see people mourning, they join them and comfort the mourners.

In January, a monkey attended the funeral of Halappa Chikkamani when he died aged 69. The monkey consoled his family and went away only when the family stopped crying.

Locals say that they miss the other kind of social gatherings but they never miss the funerals and always come to comfort the mourners.
