Pregnancy marks the beginning of a new life for both the unborn child and the parents.
Of course, it is literal for the baby and metaphorical on the parent’s part. Usually, the parents are thrilled and excited to add an additional member to the family.
Well, unless it was unplanned but in all cases, a child is considered a blessing from God and people come to terms with their gift from God.
With all the joy that pregnancy comes with it also comes with complex and complicated processes. The growth of a new life can be extremely delicate to both the child and the mother. So, many things can go wrong during the nine-month process that could end up in a tragic outcome.
These tragic outcomes may be as a result of the mother not consuming the right nutrients or not consuming them in the right amount. Apart from nutrients some of the incidents may be due to genetic defects; These are inherited from the parents or just diseases.
Or in some other cases, they may be caused by a knot. I know some of you are wondering what a knot has to do with pregnancy but am going to explain that right now.
When the baby is still inside the mother it is usually active and that is why sometimes you will hear pregnant women saying that the baby just kicked and if one is bold enough to place their hand on the womb they can certainly feel the baby moving.
The umbilical cord or navel-string or birth cord connects the fetus to the placenta. The umbilical cord is considered to be genetically and physiologically part of the fetus during development. It has two arteries and one vein.
The role of the vein is to supply oxygenated blood which is rich in nutrients to the fetus from the placenta while the role of the two arteries is to pump the deoxygenated, nutrient-depleted blood back to the placenta from the fetus.
In other words, the umbilical cord is the connection between the child and the mother and it ensures that the baby gets everything it needs to develop. The umbilical cord can make its way to the baby’s head or neck which may lead to birth complications or developmental problems.
Or it may not even end up around the baby at all. If the fetus is overactive, it can wrap itself in its own umbilical cord. Where the knot ends up forming is completely unpredictable and in some cases, the result may be purely devastating. We have all heard the horror stories surrounding such occurrences that, may even end up in fetal death.
In 2015, one Redditor shared an image of a miracle that was his son. The umbilical cord of his newly born son had tied in a perfect knot but, his son was a happy little new-born. He cried, could breathe on his own and be perfectly healthy.
What a joy this must have been to the parents. According to the post by “azathothfrog” on Reddit, even the doctors acknowledged that indeed his son was a miracle. According to the post, the doctor told the father to quickly snap a picture as his baby was a miracle.
The father did as the doctor had requested and later shared the image in the named site under the subpage called pictures and the image got a whole lot of comments and other related stories. One of the top stories was that that emphasized the miracle of the original poster’s baby.
The commenter who claimed to be an anesthesiologist claims that one of the most heartbreaking stories that he had come across in his 15 years of practice was that of the knotted umbilical cord. He claimed that a mother had gone to her gynecologist’s office a day before she was scheduled for a cesarean section to see if everything was okay with her unborn child.
The following day before the birth, they could not find a movement or heartbeat. It turns out that the umbilical cord had knotted and the baby had died during the night. What a nightmare it must have been for all parties involved.
But, we thank God that fate was not so cruel to this miracle baby and his family. We wish the boy and his family all the best luck in the world. May he be a miracle to everything and everybody he comes across.
