Bystanders Screamed As McDonald’s Staff Removed Giant Rat From The Restaurant With A Shovel


A video of McDonald’s staff evicting a rat from their restaurant has gone viral after dozens of passersby screamed in horror as the giant rodent ran out of the eatery.

The incident was caught on camera just outside a McDonald’s branch in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, UK.

In the footage, two men are seen driving the rat towards the exit. One of them was using a shovel while the other one made a shield out of cardboard.

According to the restaurant’s staff, the rat came through the main door but never came into contact with any of the food which was confirmed by the inspector they called on the scene after the eviction.

“I saw a commotion in the doorway of McDonald’s in Rotherham town center this morning,” one of the witnesses, Joanne Bamforth, said before adding that the incident left her shaken.

“So I stood back and as the staff and managers of McDonald’s were running around in the door way, I asked a young lady what all the fuss was about.

“She said, they were trying to catch a rat, it was at that point I got my phone out and video what was happening. Everyone was stood around screaming and to be fair I was also a little bit shaken.”

Confirming that the incident was resolved in a professional manner and that the restaurant was reopened for business shortly after, McDonald’s spokesperson said:

“Hygiene and cleanliness is of the utmost importance to us. Unfortunately, this morning a rat ran through the front doors of the restaurant, however, it was quickly contained in a small area next to the doors and removed.

“The restaurant was very briefly closed while the issue was being dealt with and the appropriate area was cleaned.

“The Environmental Health Officer was immediately called and was happy with the way the situation was handled. This issue did not in any way affect the kitchen or areas in close proximity.”
