The good news was confirmed by Lana Wachowski and her sister Lilly who not only penned the trilogy but also wrote the script for the upcoming movie together with David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon.

As it happens, Keanu Reeves aka Neo won’t be the only iconic figure to make appearance in The Matrix 4. He will be accompanied by Carrie-Ann Moss starring as the Trinity.

It hasn’t been confirmed, however, whether Laurence Fishburne aka Morpheus will once again lead the rebellion.

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Lana wrote.

Lilly and Lana, previously known as Larry and Andy, both transitioned after feeling trapped in their own bodies.

Speaking of her very private sister, Lilly added:

“My sister Lana and I have largely avoided the press. I find talking about my art frustratingly tedious and talking about myself a wholly mortifying experience.

“I knew at some point I would have to come out publicly. You know, when you’re living as a transgender person it’s…kind of difficult to hide. I just wanted — needed some time to get my head right, to feel comfortable.”

Suggesting that Lana is the perfect fit for the job at hand, Toby Emmerich of Warner Bros claimed they “could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana.”

“Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe,” he said.
