A man who preached Islamic sermons while being surrounded by women who he called his ‘kittens’ has been sentenced to 1,075 years in prison.
64-year-old Adnan Oktar, a Turkish sex cult leader, was found guilty of ten separate charges including rape, child sexual abuse, fraud, blackmail, and leading a criminal gang.
He was given a total of 1,075 years in jail.
Oktar was known for holding religious discussions while being surrounded by glamorous women in revealing outfits.
He was detained in 2018 along with 200 other suspects as part of a crackdown on his group by the Istanbul police’s financial crimes unit.
The hearings featured disturbing sex crime allegations, with the conservative Islamic preacher telling the judge in December that he had almost 1,000 girlfriends.
“There is an overflowing of love in my heart for women. Love is a human quality. It is a quality of a Muslim,” Oktar said in a hearing in October.
It was in the 1990s when he first came to public attention as he became the leader of a sect that was caught up in numerous sex scandals.
CC, one of the women at his trial, told the court that Oktar had sexually abused her and other women multiple times.
She also revealed that some of the women were forced to take contraceptive pills.
When asked about the contraception pills discovered by the police in his home, Oktar said that they were only used for treating menstrual irregularities and skin problems.
Oktar was also found guilty of aiding Fethullah Gulem, a US-based Muslim cleric accused of masterminding a failed coup attempt in 2016.
13 of his associates were also given long sentences on similar charges, according to Anadolu Agency.
