Man Hasn’t Washed Or Cut His 6-Foot Dreadlocks In 40 YEARS, Calling His Hair A Real ‘Blessing’

A 63-year-old man hasn’t washed or cut his 6-foot dreadlocks in four decades, calling them a ‘blessing from God.

Sakal Dev Tuddu from India wears his hair like a turban. He claimed that one night, about 40 years ago, his hair suddenly wove itself into a dreadlock, which he believed was a divine blessing.

Sakal Dev also said God visited him in his dreams and told him not to cut his dreadlocks. He has followed it ever since. He even gave up smoking and drinking out of devotion to Sadhus, their deity.

Hindu holy men, Sandus, also sport long gattas and go without grooming their tresses. Unlike the sadhus, Sakal Dev’s tresses are matted into a huge dreadlock which he simply ties up in a cloth whenever he goes out to keep it clean.

His neighbors have called him ‘Mahatma Ji’ to respect his humble demeanor and holy appearance. He is known to be a traditional healer and makes homemade treatments for couples who couldn’t bear children.

People from far and wide come just to meet him and take a photo. He greets everyone with good humor.

Sakal Dev lives with his wife, Rupiya Devi, and their three daughters, three sons, and seven grandchildren. His wife has no issues with his long locks.

The world’s longest dreadlocks is held by 55-year-old Asha Mandela, whose hair measured 34m (110feet) in 2018.

One internet user said: “I’ve seen “sadhus” (holy men) in India with hair longer than this but separated into many narrow “jattas”, making it far more manageable than this fellow’s portable mat. But he certainly deserves respect for his single-minded dedication.”

Another wrote: “That’s just nasty, in my opinion ……”

A third said: “A ‘blessing from God’ that you can nearly smell through your device…”
