To increase the man’s chances of survival, doctors placed Scott in an induced coma. While he was battling the disease for three weeks, Scott’s 76-year-old mother and her 69-year-old partner both succumbed to coronavirus and died at the hospital where he was slowly recovering.

After Mr. Miller finally woke up, he was confronted with the grim news of his family’s passing. As he explained, his mother and her partner were the only two other members of his household.

“When I came round, I just had a gut feeling that something had happened to mum, and when the nurse told me it was just disbelief and shock. It was very hard,” Scott recalled.

The grieving son also shared an important message as he urged people to take coronavirus seriously. “People need to understand it’s a real killer, I don’t think people are really taking it seriously,” he said in an interview with BBC.

As Sharlene Miller, Scott’s sister-in-law, revealed, the 43-year-old’s doctors shared concerns that he may also succumb to the disease while he was in recovery. Fortunately, however, he pulled through and woke up three weeks after he had been placed in an induced coma.

“There was a sense of relief obviously, because I don’t think we could have coped with losing Scott as well. When we were able to speak to him and see him, we were elated with that. It was lovely,” Sharlene said.
