Young Man With Cerebral Palsy Crowd Surfs In His Wheelchair At Music Festival


A rock fan with cerebral palsy flew high as other music lovers lifted him in his wheelchair at the Resurrection Fest in Spain.

The photo is now being celebrated as a symbol of inclusiveness in action.

Photos of Alex, a man with cerebral palsy, being elevated by the crowd have gone viral, with one image taken by photographer Daniel Cruz shared thousands of times.

The image shows Alex in his wheelchairs as people held him up during Arch Enemy set. The photo captured has been labeled the photo of the summer.

Others also shared their own photos and videos of the heartwarming moment on social media.

Daniel Cruz, a festival photographer, said to a Spanish media outlet LaSexta that he could not let the moment go unrecorded.

“I got on the fence running and I saw that the people were carrying Alex, it was an immediate reaction, to take the camera and take the picture,” he said.

Arch Enemy also recorded the scene and shared a video of what they described as an ‘incredible’ gesture by its ‘awesome’ fans.

The band tweeted: “The Arch Enemy legions just being awesome as usual at @ResurrectionESP in Spain a couple of days ago.”

According to La Opinion, it was Alex who had asked the people to lift him up. Even though there was an area for people with disabilities, the young man said he wanted to be a part of the crowd.

One woman tweeted: “Thanks to all those people who made Alex fulfill a dream … Let’s educate humanity.”

Another wrote: “It’s great that, although some see difficulties, others see solutions and joys like that.”

A third commented: “I nursed people in the seventies with cerebral palsy, they were hidden away, this is so wonderful.”
