A lucky lotto winner was so happy with his win that he only went and forgot to bring the ticket when going to collect his $1.
1 million.
Odhran Doherty, 23 to claim his winnings in a stretch limo, and realized that he forgot to bring the slip with him.
“My father put it in a safe place, a little bit too safe now to be honest,” farm worker Odhransaid.
“We were in Raphoe, near where we got the bloody thing.
“But it wasn’t too bad, we were only in Raphoe so we got it back and it was alright.”
Speaking about the moment he knew he’d won, Odhran added: “I just scanned the ticket and it just said congratulations, but I thought I’d won a couple of thousand, but I didn’t realise it was going to be this kind of amount.”
Odhran had run into a spot of bother when he went to the ATM before heading out to celebrate his win.
“My card was bouncing,” he said – referring to a moment many of us know all too well.
“Faulty card apparently because I had money in the account but whatever, we’ll not worry about that now anyway.”
Remembering the win, his dad Liam also said: “I couldn’t remember the day, I thought it was April Fool’s. He rang me and he says, ‘Get down here’. I still thought it was a bit of a joke.
“I say ‘What the heck do you want me down for?’ and he says ‘Get down here I think there’s something up.’
“I landed down and he came out of the pub and said ‘I won a million quid.’
Liam explained: “We were working on Saturday, Margaret, myself and him on the farm all day and I decided to go up to Raphoe for something to eat.
“I bought three tickets, one for Margaret, myself and Odhran.”
“I’m not leaving it, I like it too much and I’ve kind of chose it now,” he said.
“It’s kind of a family thing now so I’ll stay at it.”
He did, however, admit that ‘every day is a party now’ for he and his family, along with girlfriend Jessica.
“It’s amazing,” Odhran said.
“Me and Dad… always chatted about what we would spend the money on but we never thought it would actually happen, you know, you always think about it but you never know the feeling. It’s unimaginable.”
