Watch: Landlord denies Denver man property because he is Muslim

A Denver landlord wasn’t ready to give her property to a Muslim Father-Son duo as she wants an American person to sublease her property.
When the Muslim Father and Son approached her, she asked for $675,000 if they wish to purchase the property. The father and son sued the landlord last year for the discrimination and generated local news saying that everyone should boycott the female landlord business.
Craig Caldwell who is 71 years old and tenant of the property agreed to give it to Muslim father and Son, but the owner didn’t accept.
Zuned Khan who is 66 years old and Rashad who is 36, are thinking of opening their second Indian Restaurant. Soon after the case was filed, because of the trial the parties decided to settle the matter.
When the settlement was done Rashad claimed that it was a relief because it was the first experience in his life when he faced problems at work because of his race and faith.
The Muslim duo only cared about getting justice as they didn’t want to fight unnecessarily.
The woman has a property in a building in the Denver neighborhood of Capitol Hill, and the property is surrounded by grocery shops and coffee shops.
Caldwell started to rent the building in 2016 and then also decided to close the fried chicken restaurant that he owns since2017. Then he continued to find someone who could pay sublease it and The Muslim duo wanted to open their second Indian restaurant at that time, so they liked the property.
Caldwell liked the Muslim duo after checking their financial records and other requirements and was ready to sublease the agreement with them but then the owner of the building, Katina Gatchis refused to give it away to Muslims.
Caldwell couldn’t believe the old lady’s mentality, and so he decided to record the phone call with her where she said that she wants good American people like you and me not like them.
After some days when Caldwell thought of talking to her again thinking that she must have given it some thought, but he was shocked to see that she was determined enough to not give it away to them.
When the recordings and document were shown in the court, they said that Gatis has agreed to make such agreements to them.
Caldwell referred to Denver attorney Qusair Mohamedbhai who is the one who handles the civil rights and discrimination claims.
Mohamedbhai also spoke about the businesses in Colorado and across the country should be aware of the fact that these laws are in the book and if anyone tries to discriminate it then people can stand up against them and point them as a wrong person.
