Robert and Janice Beecham tied the knot back in 1974. Throughout the decades, the couple remained strong despite Robert suffering a stroke and spending two of their anniversaries in the hospital.

This year, the couple was once again worried they wouldn’t get the chance to be with one another on their special day after Robert got hospitalized over COVID-19 symptoms including congested lungs, loss of taste, and chills just a week before the couple’s wedding anniversary.

“The night [before the diagnosis], I prayed because I was so sick. I told God I was ready to come home,” Mr. Beecham explained.

As it happens, the husband’s diagnosis came at the same time his wife was about to undergo chemotherapy after a breast cancer surgery.

“I started crying hysterically because I was like, ‘I got to get to this man.’ I was trying to explain to [the doctors] I’ve always been there for him through everything. I didn’t want him alone,” Janice recalled.

While the devoted wife wasn’t allowed to see her husband due to the pandemic measures, she was reassured that her husband was in good hands.

As Dr. Satyam Nayak, one of the doctors overseeing Robert’s care, explained, he “could feel the love” the couple shares by listening to his patient.

“You could close your eyes, and the way they talk about each other, you could feel the love,” Dr. Nayak insisted.

Knowing how important it was to Robert to be reunited with his wife in time to celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary, the doctor and the rest of the team decided to place the man in 14-day quarantine in a spare bedroom at the couple’s home rather than keeping him in the hospital.

Thanks to the hospital staff’s efforts, the couple didn’t miss their anniversary, whereas Robert could see his wife on a patio outside their home while he was safely isolating inside the spare bedroom.

“I was so glad to see him. My heart was happy. When you’re together all the time, it’s hard when someone is not there,” Janice said of her reunion with Robert.
