“Hurricane Hawkins” Won Several Titles at the Age of 103 In US Senior Games


We assume senior citizens are not able to get involved in sports or physical activities.

It takes a lot of efforts for a person to participate in sports. Well, it seems the same is not the case always.

Hurricane’ Hawkins has banged down the wall and secured the title of the oldest woman to run for a 50 and 100-meter dash on the American ground at the National Senior Games organized in New Mexico.

This is not the first time she has got a title to her name as the woman already holds the title of the oldest woman for 100 meters dash in her age group. Although she could not pass her previous record she did cross the finish line in about 46 seconds.

She said “I love running. I keep participating in these games to make my body feel better. I keep myself active all the time. From the very start, I used to run a lot.

I have grown old now, very old for certain people but it is important for me to keep my active life working. I have this huge land at home, about an acre.

I work on it to keep myself active.”

She started cycling when she was in her 80s. She then participated in the Senior Olympics. Soon she became the oldest in her category.

That is when her children suggested her to try running. She did not take much time to agree on it and started practicing running. She chose to go for 100 meters dash.

Even at such an age, her knees, hips, of the back causes her no ache. She is in perfect health because she has been cycling for a very long time. But apparently, she does not have her eyesight right.

She struggles to keep in the white line while running too at times.
