“After speaking with the gentleman’s wife and with himself I realised that he was having a heart attack,” Nathan said.

Someone called emergency services as Nathan asked staff at the Chester Grosvenor hotel if they could use their defibrillator. However, he was told they were unable to ‘lend’ the device.

“If you are unwilling to provide life-saving equipment to someone who needs it then shame on you.

“If you aren’t giving [the hotel] an extortionate amount of money then they will quite literally let you die and not even bat an eyelid.”

“This is disgusting,” he added.

Nathan also said that nearby New Blossoms hotel offered their life-saving equipment and the old man was treated.

One internet user commented: “Well done to ‘concerned passer by’ Nathan Roberts. Thank God there are still good people who will put themselves out to help people they don’t know who are in difficulties.”

Another said: “To the person(s) who said No How the hell can you put your head on the pillow and sleep at night. Imagine that was your parents that needed help!”
