Homeless Man Whose Pet Was ‘Stolen’ Got Reunited With His Beloved Rat


A homeless man who has gone viral after pleading with people to help him get his pet rat who got ‘stolen’ back has been reunited with his beloved pet.

59-year-old homeless man Chris has been at his spot in Sydney, Australia, for many years. By his side, there had been a pet rat named Lucy who helped Chris get through rough days.

Thanks to their extraordinary relationship, Lucy and Chris became local celebrities who always entertained strangers who asked to take photos with the rat.

According to Alyson Pearce, a Sydney woman who regularly visits Chris, however, Lucy the Rat had been taken from the unfortunate man.

After seeing Chris’ sign explaining that Lucy had gone missing, Alyson and the local community went on a mission to find Lucy.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia about his beloved pet, Chris said:

“I don’t want to press charges against the person who stole Lucy. I just want her back. She was family. I would lean down to her and say, ‘how are you?’ and she would get up on her hind legs and give me a peck.

“I don’t know why this had to happen to me. I haven’t done anything bad to deserve this – I was brought up to respect people.”

Now, weeks after Lucy went missing, Chris has been reunited with his beloved pet after NSW Police brought the man to the station and handed over a cardboard box containing Lucy.

“Let’s hope it’s the right rat,” the homeless man said. After she gave him a peck, however, Chris knew that the rat really was Lucy.

“Sorry to put you all through the trouble looking for her,” he told the cops.
