Heartbroken mother tells sources that “my baby’s never coming home,” after police conducts their findings and reveal a body that had been found in a nearby pond.
Richard Okorogheye, son of the mother, disappeared after telling his mother that he had been “struggling to cope” with lockdown, amongst many other teenagers who have had difficulty dealing with the COVID19 lockdown.
Recently, there was a body that had been found in Epping Forest, Essex. There is no identity tied to the body yet, but authorities will take a look into it today. The description given to Joel, mother, claims that the body matches her son’s build.
Joel, Community nurse, cries to the public and states that “We thought Richard would be found or would just come home. But he’s not. My baby will never come home to his mummy again. I can’t even describe the feeling. He was taken away from me too early. The only child I have.”
Police are still examining the body, and the mother hopes that it is not the 19 year old boy that they have been trying to find for the last two weeks.
Richard, 19, is a business and IT undergraduate at Oxford Brookes University who struggles with sickle cell disease. The last time that he had seen his family was on March 22nd, and CCTV footage reveals that he was walking around Kensington around 8:40 pm before disappearing in Loughton, Essex.
Another CCTV catches him near Epping Forest, where police have found an unidentified body in the pond.
Essex Police have also spoken with Richard’s family to update them with what information they have, and officers will continue to be with the family throughout the post-mortem process.
Police will still continue to carry out the investigation, trying to understand the full situation at hand.
Ms. Joel tells The Guardian that she feels “Completely helpless. Helpless, and also, sorry to use this word, but I feel useless,” when speaking about the search of her son.
Each day that goes by is a “nightmare” described by the mother, wanting to look for him but she can’t do anything. Because of Richard’s sickle cell disease, his mother had tried her best to shelter him in the best way possible so he doesn’t face any dire consequences.
The mother reaches out to her boy, calling him constantly for him to come home. She tells him, “Richard, we love you and miss you very much, please can you come home. We aren’t angry at you. We just want to know that you’re okay.”
The last words he tells her are “Mummy, I’m going to see my friend.”
