If you have been to a wedding, you are probably familiar with the way events unfold.
All family members gather, romantic music plays in the background, and the couple delivers their vows.
Before the ceremony ended, the priest or minister turns to the crowd and asks: “If any of you has reasons why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
Nobody usually says anything but one groom from Portugal interrupted his own wedding.
Jefferson and Jessica were madly in love and their special day had far gone as anticipated. After exchanging their vows, Jefferson started his surprising and unorthodox speech.
Even though he loved Jessica so much, he said that he had a huge confession to make.
The groom revealed that his heart also belonged to another special woman, and she’s standing right behind them.
The crowd was shocked – until Jefferson approached 8-year-old Giovanna.
Jessica had a daughter from her previous relationship. People who grew up in blended families know such changes in the family can cause insecurity, confusion, and communication problems.
Introducing a new parental figure also comes with numerous questions that need to be discussed.
Jefferson was ready to do everything so he could be a good husband and also a father.
While everyone was watching, Jefferson promised to love not only Jessica but also Giovanna. He said:
“If I could ask God for anything, it would be to have you as my daughter. I would be the proudest father in the world to have such a beautiful, intelligent and educated daughter like you . . . I also give you love, my love, to always take care of you, to always protect you and to not let anything bad happen to you.”
His heartfelt words left the crowd in tears. Congratulations to the bride and groom!
