Lady Gaga was reportedly embarrassed to hear that her dad Joe Germanotta is asking for donations to pay his staff after closing the family restaurant, Joanne Trattoria amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 34-year-old singer came to know that her father has set up a GoFundMe account urging the people to donate $50,000 to pay for his staff’s wages.
A source told Page Six.“She had no idea he was doing that and that idea would have been shot down before he even finished bringing it up and the worst part is, it’s her birthday!”
“Neither she nor [mom] Cynthia would ever let that happen. It was him acting on his own, unfortunately, really bad impulse.”
Gaga was not impressed by her father’s move as the family can afford to pay their restaurant staff. Joe wrote on the page, “As our doors remain closed longer than anticipated, our staff is finding it increasingly difficult to finance the daily necessities to keep them healthy, like groceries and insurance costs — to say nothing of rent, utilities, and other recurring bills.”
He received flak for asking for financial support from the public as one social media user wrote, “You’re asking people that are more than likely worse off than you to pay for your staff. Come on, you can afford to pay them.”
“You are wealthy and your daughter is beyond wealthy. This is just so disgusting,” another said.
After receiving the backlash he deleted the page and a source called it a stupid mistake. The source said: “It was a stupid embarrassing mistake. He saw other people getting into the spirit of giving and generosity and somehow thought that applied here. It had more to do with the spirit than a belief that he needed or deserved financial help to pass on to his employees. He was acting on impulse.”
