Feminists Are Not Amused That All-Male Band ‘Green Day’ Is Writing A “Handbook” For Them

The band Green Day, whose members are all male, has incurred the ire of feminists after they recently announced that they are coming out with their first “graphic novel” that is being touted as a “handbook” for the modern American woman and “every woman who refuses to capitulate.

The graphic novel, titled “Last of the American Girls,” will come out in October and is calling itself an indispensable guide for women who want to maintain and develop their punk rock edge in a decreasingly punk rock world, says the novel’s publisher, Harper Collins. It is supposedly “a rallying cry for all rebel girls.”

There’s just one problem: the team behind the novel is entirely male. A male illustrator, cartoonist Frank Caruso, was hired by the band to do the ink work.

While people may question what “advice” such a book can give to today’s liberated woman, it’s worth noting that “Last of the American Girls” is the title of one of the band’s songs in their latest album, “21st Century Breakdown.”

So the graphic novel could simply be the song’s lyrics with illustrations, or it could be a comprehensive guide to modern feminism that was written by males. Third wave feminists being what they are, they immediately assumed it will be the latter and quickly took to social media to voice their concern.

“What rebellious every woman among us has not longed for an inspiring handbook authored and illustrated by four men and zero women,” wrote one.

“Yeah that’s what we need, a handbook for female rebellion…written by men,” wrote another.

“boys i love u with all of my heart and would happily take SEVERAL bullets for you but don’t you think the main ”rule” to being an independent woman in punk should be to, well, not be told how to live their lives by men who have no experience in what its like to live as a woman??”

It doesn’t help that neither the band nor their publicist has responded to requests for clarification.

On the other hand, it’s not surprising that Green Day would follow this tack as they have always displayed a “woke” attitude.

The band had penned their “rock opera” titled “American Idiot” during the height of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars during the presidency of George W. Bush and even turned “American Idiot” into a successful Broadway musical.

Green Day stayed largely silent during the Obama administration though even though the Afghanistan and Iraq wars continued to rage at that time and even expanded American participation in conflicts through the use of drone warfare across the globe.

The band only resurfaced recently in order to protest President Donald Trump. It even came to the point that lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong told Trump supporters to stop listening to the band’s music after one fan said that Armstrong’s strong anti-Trump tweets would have little effect on fans who support the president. In their 2017 greatest hits album they even included an anti-Trump protest song, “Back in the USA,” as a bonus feature.

But this time, the band has found itself on the wrong side of “woke” for the first time and it must be a strange experience for them.
