35-year-old Daniel Walton seemed to be a happy-go-lucky man as he would always pull hilarious pranks and jokes on his family and friends.

The photo of the smiling father taken only a few days before he was found lifeless doesn’t show anything about his battle against depression. The father-of-five secretly feared that he couldn’t provide for his children.

His devastated girlfriend of 12 years, Tammy Peet, spoke about the heartbreaking incident in support of The Sun’s You’re Not Alone Campaign.

“Daniel was one of life’s happy guys,” 32-year-old Tammy said. “He was a brilliant dad who spoiled his kids rotten and always made time for them.

“His kids were his world.”

In an interview with Sun Online, the grieving mother added: “People need to know how devastating depression can be, and that just by looking at someone you don’t ever know what’s going on inside.”

An inquest heard that Daniel had fought against depression for ten years when he was found hanged at his home.

His sister, 41-year-old Juliet, said: “We will never really know what was going on in his mind. He felt that he wanted his children to have it all and wrongly thought he couldn’t provide it.

“But of course he could. All they ever wanted was love – and he provided that in spades.

Another wrote: “People with depression need supportive therapies to go along with the medication. Prescribing pills isn’t the cure.”

A third added: “So very sad. People are suffering , and we all need to talk more. Please do it.”
