A teenage mother has gone viral after taking her young son to prom with her because she couldn’t find a babysitter for the little boy.
Melissa McCabe from Tranmere, England, is a 16-year-old mother who gave birth to now-one-year-old Arthur back in November 2020.
As the girl explained, she has been raising her “biggest blessing” alone ever since.
And when it was time for Melissa to attend her prom, she immediately thought she would either have to cancel the big event altogether or find a babysitter for the 1-year-old.
After she failed to find someone to keep an eye on her son, however, the teenager got an even better idea – to dress little Arthur in a mini tuxedo and take him with her to prom as her date.
“Everyone going to prom with their boyfriends whereas I took my biggest blessing,” Melissa wrote in a TikTok video as she shared a series of adorable photos of her son posing by her side.
The teen’s clip quickly went viral and racked up more than 1.6 million views on the platform.
“This is the cutest… he looks so proud in his little suit,” someone wrote.
“Omg you are the best mother the most gorgeous person I have ever had the pleasure to see and the most lucky person ever,” another said.
The third suggested: “Best date you could have.”
Following the successful prom, Melissa spoke out to Liverpool Echo and recalled the time she got pregnant when she was just 14.
“When I found out I was pregnant obviously I was really young. It was hard because everyone told me I was ruining my life and I wasn’t going to get my GCSEs. So many people make comments when I’m out with him,” she said.
“Often people think he’s my little brother and when I tell them he’s mine their attitude completely changes. Older people especially find it disgusting because obviously their way was to get married first and then have kids.”
Despite some negative reactions and comments, the teenager now receives a lot of support from her followers on TikTok where she often shares her adventures with Arthur and talks about her experiences as a young mom.
