Elderly Couple Committed Suicide After Husband’s Terminal Bowel Cancer Diagnosis


An elderly couple committed suicide after the husband’s terminal bowel cancer diagnosis as they couldn’t bear to live without one another.

80-year-old Howard and 78-year-old Jacqueline Titterton made a suicide pact after they discovered that Howard was suffering from cancer.

They wrote letters for friends, the police and their solicitor and handed over keys to their home to neighbors so officers could enter.

“Neither one of us wishes to live without the other,” one letter read.

An inquest also heard how the two, who had enjoyed amazing life together, labeled items with the names of individuals they wanted to receive them, according to Daily Post.

The husband and wife were found lifeless in their house in St. Asaph, Wales with a post mortem revealing they died of suffocation only a short time apart.

Howard was found in the bath while his wife was found in the bedroom.

The court also heard Howard had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was receiving care at home from his former nurse wife.

The day they passed away, their neighbor received an envelope that contained £500 and a note saying they had committed suicide.

“I wondered if I was reading what I was,” Andrew Thomas expressed. His wife, Susan, who received a park-and-ride ticket for Chester, called 999 as the note said.

Anthony Jones, a childhood friend, received letters on the day the couple said. He said the two enjoyed traveling and cruising. They shared the same hobbies of photography and music and had no children.
