Plastic is the worst type of waste we produce because it does not decompose naturally in the environment.
Unfortunately, plastics are widely used as disposable items so they end up being a troublesome waste. If we can remove anything from the eight million tons of plastic waste we produce every year, it would be a great step towards the preservation of our environment.
In a positive development, some companies have come up with innovative ideas to replace plastic straws.
The alternatives include reusable straws made from metal and decomposable alternatives made from natural materials like paper, bamboo, and grass.
The most environmentally-friendly straw, however, is the newly introduced edible straw made from pasta. It means you can drink your juice and eat the straw. Seems like a healthy breakfast, doesn’t it?
These straws are made of noodles formed into hollow pipes. The material used is the same as the pasta you eat.
It is astonishing but true that these straws are better for health than standard macaroni.
Maxim Gelmann, the founder of Stroodles, says that the straws are so strong that they can be used for drumming.
Stroodles is currently supplying the edible straws to a number of restaurants throughout England.
The Amazing Pasta Straw was formed by Bob Morris, who is a restaurateur and has successfully run Paradise Clove and Gladstones in Malibu.
He has now started supplying the straws to a number of well-known restaurants.
Both the Stroodles and The Amazing Pasta Straw claim their product to be tasteless when used with cold beverages.
The Stroodles website also claims that the straws take about an hour to soften up which is roughly the same time a paper straw takes.
Stroodles founder Gelmann suggests that bartenders can serve these straws with drinks like bloody marry and they’ll be a good edible garnish.
