In sickness or health, your partner should be the one that you can always lean on in times of need. Paul and Marta are one such couple with an undying love for each other. Here goes their story.

As a well-recognized couple in their community, Paul and Martha have been together for 57 years. They were popular not for their wealth or style but their sacrificial commitment and love. Something as simple as waving at the passing cars has touched the hearts of many.

The first chapter of their love story began in their youth, as Paul and Martha were attending the same church. After years of growing up together, Paul joined the Navy and was posted at Pearl Harbor.

It was only after his transfer that their communication spiked and turned out to be of a more romantic nature. The couple was frequently sending each other love letters and continued to deepen their connection. After a while, Paul also decided to propose to Martha.

Together with his friend, Paul bought an engagement ring even though he and Martha had no plans for the future yet. He hesitantly kept the ring for some time then finally decided to send it to Martha through the mail.

Martha accepted the ring, and the two remained together for 57 years. As they got older, Martha and Paul often stayed in front of the Van Healthcare Center where he was spending last moments with his dying wife. To provide her with some comfort, Paul sat with his wife and together they were waving at the passing cars.

“I wasn’t always the best husband, but she has always been the best wife. We’ve had a lot of adventures together, and she loved me through it all.” Paul explained.

People were inspired by the couple and were grateful for the waves they received from them. “When I go days without seeing them I can’t help but wonder if everything is ok, then all of a sudden boom there they are, I say ‘OK EVERYTHING IS RIGHT IN THE WORLD,’” a nearby resident, Kimberli Durham Shane, wrote.

In March 2017, Martha has passed away. Though the lovely couple won’t be able to wave together anymore, the memory of their story remains. Small acts grow big in the hearts of people and remind us that there is lots of good in the world.
