A family experienced a horrifying crime when four gunmen forced their way into their home in Texas.

It was 1 am when burglars pinned the father down and held him at gunpoint. His wife and three children ran down to the home’s living room to see what was going on but the attackers showed their weapons and ordered them to go back into their rooms.

The invaders then started taking items.

But the family dog raced to her family’s aid and charged at the intruders. One of the gunmen opened fire on the loving pooch and bullets struck her twice.

During that time, one of the children escaped through a window and sought help. As soon as the burglars noticed that one of them was missing, they ran away from the scene.

The father decided to grab a weapon he secretly hid and ran after the intruders but the criminals were already far away.

Family friend Khari Anderson said: “It’s a good situation out of a bad situation, the best could have happened.”

Anderson said he hoped that no one would try another robber anytime soon. “You’re not going to get rich quick, robbing people like this. Something is going to happen. You’re going to get shot, or you’re going to be in jail.”

“Everybody is OK,” Anderson added. “But hopefully they find whoever did that.”

Despite being shot twice, the dog’s veterinarian expects her to make a full recovery.

Michelle Choi wrote on Twitter: “Here’s the family’s dog, bandaged up, but she’s okay. She was shot at twice, hit once in her paw, trying to protect her family from 4 masked/armed men terrorizing her family, during home invasion in SE #Houston.”
