An elderly woman who had always been afraid of the neighbor’s scary-looking pooch was saved by the pit bull after he heard her screams for help.

Simba the pit bull may not look like it, but as his owners explained, he is the sweetest and most caring dog they know.

Despite his friendly personality, however, most people prefer to avoid him due to his breed. One such doubter was also the neighbor of Simba’s owner who called the dog mean only for the pooch to save her life when no one else would.

“He always tried to greet her, but she called him mean and looked at him with fear. She never liked him because he was a ‘bad’ breed,” Simba’s owner, Arjanit Mehana, said in an interview with The Dodo.

One day, however, Arjanit was out for a walk with Simba when the dog suddenly stopped and listened before pulling his owner towards the door of the unit where the elderly neighbor is living.

“He stopped. He began to bark and run to the door where the neighbor lives. I pulled the leash but he refused to come,” the dog owner added.

It wasn’t until she followed Simba, however, that she realized what was really going on.

“I heard a weak voice shout for help. She said, ‘Please don’t go,’” Mehana recalled. “She had broken her hip and been in her home for a while.”

Apparently, the elderly woman had been stuck to the floor for two days after she had found herself unable to move due to a broken hip.

Fortunately, Simba heard her when humans couldn’t and saved her life just in time for emergency services to take her to the hospital where she received proper treatment.

After emergency services showed up, the elderly woman was overjoyed whereas her attitude towards Simba has changed forever.

“She said, ‘Thank you for hearing me.’ I thought she was talking to me at first. But then she said, ‘No, not you — the nice doggie,’” Mehana recalled.

As the proud pit bull owner told The Dodo, she hopes “this event will make people see bully breeds differently. We, as human beings, must deserve their loyalty and love.”
