A 6-year-old dog is being hailed a hero after he saved a newborn baby.
His owner, Usa Nisaika, just shared Ping Pong’s heroic act.
“Ping Pong was hit by a car, so he’s disabled,” Usa said. “But I kept him because he’s so loyal and obedient, and always helps me out when I go into the fields to tend to my cattle.”
Last week, Ping Pong helped with the farm and as they walked through a cassava field, the pooch was alerted to something along the borders of the field.
Ping Pong then started digging and when Usa looked closer, he was horrified to see a small leg sticking through the soil.
Usa immediately took the baby who had been abandoned in the shallow grave and brought him to a hospital. Fortunately, the little boy was unharmed and healthy, weighing only a little more than five pounds.
Investigations revealed that the baby’s mother was a 15-year-old girl who was scared her father would beat her up if he discovered she was pregnant.
“Police officers are preparing to prosecute the mother but she is also a child and we must consider her mind and be professional,” said the governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, Wichian Chantharonothai. “It is important that she is nurtured and treated fairly.”
The governor added: “The parent of the mother have offered to take care of the baby when he leaves hospital but that has not been agreed yet. A team of police and government welfare workers need to consider the safety of the children.”
Ping Pong is now being hailed a hero for what he did. “He’s loved by the entire village,” Usa said. “It’s amazing he found the baby.”
